The one-year certificate Paramedic program at Tacoma Community College educates individuals who provide advanced out-of-hospital emergency care to patients. The graduate will have developed competencies in recognition and management of medical and trauma emergencies. Paramedics are typically employed by fire services, hospitals, or ambulance companies.
The Paramedic program is designed to prepare graduates to meet State certification requirements, as well as to take the National Registry EMT-Paramedic examination.
The program is fully accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in collaboration with the Joint Review Committee on Education Programs for the EMT-Paramedic (JRC).
Upon successful completion of the certificate program, students have the option to pursue an Associate in Applied Sciences Degree by completing a minimum of 37 to 40 additional credits of general education courses as outlined in the curriculum. (Please see page 6 in the packet for details on courses required) Those classes are encouraged to be taken prior to beginning the Paramedic program. (Please note: If you have taken your pre-requisite courses elsewhere then you must submit those officially to the Records and Registration Department in Bldg. 7 to ensure no delay at time of application for the Degree).
We also offer the EMT-Basic program (EMC 110), which is the entry level certification course into the field of Emergency Medical Services.
